Desarrollan un sensor selectivo para creatinina en muestras biológicas

Investigadores del Instituto Catalán de Investigación Química y la Universidad Rovira i Virgili han desarrollado el primer sensor capaz de determinar de forma directa los niveles de creatinina –un producto corporal de deshecho– en fluidos biológicos como la orina o el plasma, de una manera exacta, rápida, simple y económica. Un nivel anormal de creatinina puede ser indicativo de un mal funcionamiento de los riñones.

North Korea Claims to have Successfully Tested an H-Bomb -- But Did They?

On January 6, 2016, officials from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea announced that they had successfully tested their first hydrogen fusion bomb in an underground detonation, in North Hamgyong Province. North Korea's media claimed that this new weapon would be used as a self-defense measure against a U.S.-backed invasion, but experts are skeptical that the DRPK's new weapon actually exists.

Expectación en la física por el posible hallazgo de ondas gravitacionales

Hace un siglo Einstein predijo la existencia de ondas gravitacionales, ondulaciones en el espacio-tiempo producidas por cuerpos muy masivos acelerados, como agujeros negros, supernovas y estrellas de neutrones. Los científicos llevan más de 50 años tratando de detectarlas, y ahora el observatorio LIGO de EE UU lo podría haber conseguido. Así lo sugieren los últimos tuits del físico teórico Lawrance M. Krauss, aunque los responsables del experimento insisten en que, de momento, se trata solo de un rumor.
