Hurricane Patricia, which had been a weak system, suddenly strengthened into the most powerful hurricane ever recorded. The storm is headed for southern Mexico, where catastrophic flood and wind damage are anticipated. Outlying storm bands will reach Texas and are predicted to cause up to 10 inches of rain across south Texas before the remnants of the storm head up across the US Midwest. The storm is powerful enough to cross Mexico and reform in the Gulf of Mexico. This is due to the extreme tightness of the storm's organization.
